Rehabilitation of an 18th century building in Barcelona’s Raval district, an old house-workshop dedicated to the manufacture of Indiana, the Alabau Factory.
The building, catalogued with level B protection, conserves a main façade with exceptional sgraffito, completely restored. At the time of the intervention, both the structure and the facade were very deteriorated, with the sgraffito practically imperceptible.
The original set, the result of multiple transformations over three centuries, was configured as a house-patio with two lateral bodies destined for workshop.
The proposal reorders the building and updates its operation:
11 housing units with official protection, 4 studios with access from the courtyard and 2 premises, with a new organization of vertical communications and interior distribution.
The intervention recovers the original character of the building and restores the reading of the sgraffito, where the four elements – earth, air, water and fire – are represented, with prominent figures such as Neptune.
It recently won the AVS 2025 Award
